Fun Facts:


Depending on the person (male or female):
  • Your body could be facing a different direction.
  • Women's heads are faced to the west so she may see the sunset and know when to prepare dinner.
  • Some people may place the head towards the east, the rising sun.
  • Men put aside money for an elaborate funeral.

Believes:
  • When there is a lot of music played, the better the afterlife for the person who died.
  • A dead family member will come back in reincarnation on the sister's or mother's side of the family.
  • They believe in reincarnation. (the soul returns to earth in a new form)

Death:
  • Death is not considered an end, but a transition.
  • No matter what religion all Nigerians bury their dead.
  • The dead are buried a day after they die.
  • When an elder dies there is a week of mourning.

How to Bury the Body:
  • Most bodies are covered with black earth, because they believe that the red earth will give skin blemishes.
